In 2015, the National Standards Commission approved the release of the national standards for School Uniforms of Primary and Secondary school Students,which clearly stipulated the fabric,production and safety requirements of school uniforms.This is a special national standard for school uniform products of primary and secondary school students in China,and the standard has been implemented since the date of release.

According to the introduction,this standard starts from solving the current outstanding quality and safety problems of school uniforms,in the development process absorbed a lot of research results,break the boundaries of woven clothing and knitted clothing industry,formulate standards from the perspective facilitating the healthy growth of the majority of young people,fully standarlized the basic quality and safety of school uniforms,and builded a safety line of school uniforms quality of primary and secondary school students.

This standard greatly raises the safety and quality requirments of school uniforms,and no longer divides school uniform products according to the traditional practice,but only sets up one entry threshold.In terms of safety,the new school uniform safety standard stipulates that the contents of formaidehyde,PH value,decomposed carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes in school uniforms should meet the Class B requirements of the "National Basic Safety Technical Specification for Textile Products".Combustion performance,sharpness of accessories,clothing rope and residual metal needle should meet the safety Technical specification for textile Products for infants and children.For example,the length of the cap rope on the school uniform of primary school students should be within a certain range. If it is too long, it is easy to sind the neck.

For the general performance requirements of school uniform, the standard provisions should be equivalent to the current clothing standards of the same class of product requirements,especially color fastness,washing size change rate,pilling,color difference,cloth defects,symmetrical parts of the product quality indicators that consumers pay attention to,compared with the general clothing products put forward higher requirements,some indicators to reach the level of excellent products.

In order to ensure the comfort of school uniforms,the standard specifically adds the requirement that the cotton fiber content in the part of school uniforms directly in contact with the skin should not be less than 35% of the nominal value, and does not allow any label to be stitched on the collar and other details to enhance comfort.

The standard make a number of provisions from the perspective of student health and safety.In addition to not using pure chemical fabrics to make summer uniforms,faded fabrics are also prohibited,especially those printed with azo dyes,which contain formaldehyde and can pose a health hazard to students. The standards set clear limits on the amount of formaldehyde in school uniform fabrics.In addition,shrinkable fabrics are not allowed to “join" the ranks of school clothes.The amount of lead in zippers is also specified to prevent students from being exposed to lead contamination,among other things.
